Oracle first introduced the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 Release almost four years ago. Yet, more than 50% of users still have not upgraded their JD Edwards instance to Enterprise 9.2. Those who have upgraded are reporting significant benefits from its transformational new business capabilities including increased security, mobility, and improved real-time insights. So, what are you waiting for?
Some companies have delayed this important upgrade because of a lack of IT resources. Others have put it off in fear of the process. If you fall into either category, you aren’t alone — but this is where the benefits of a managed service provider can come into play to help you check the upgrade off your list.

What’s new?
Oracle has made great strides in recent years with significant improvements to the upgrade process for JD Edwards. It’s coined the term “constant current” and released a completely refined upgrade program - the Simplified Upgrade process. Whereas a Traditional Upgrade replaces all JD Edwards EnterpriseOne objects, the Simplified Upgrade process identifies and replaces only specific standard JD Edwards EnterpriseOne objects that have changed between Applications Release 9.0 Update 2 or Release 9.1 to Applications Release 9.2. Oh, and there’s this little thing called the cloud to consider now too.
Why now?
A decent chunk of time has passed since the 9.2 rollout in 2015. So, why upgrade now? To begin, companies slow to upgrade JDE to E1 Release 9.2 can’t take full advantage of the latest tools and applications within the JD Edwards product roadmap — My Worklist, orchestrating enhancements, and 64-bit computing, to name a few. Utilizing a hybrid approach and harnessing the Internet of Things is also increasingly difficult with the older EnterpriseOne releases. In plain terms, if you don’t upgrade to EnterpriseOne 9.2 now, you’ll be left behind.
Am I ready?
Even with the remarkable efficiencies that are now available, the upgrade process can still be incredibly daunting. Very few customers truly feel like they are fully aware of the right steps to take and best practices to follow.
To get the most out of JD Edwards’ new digital transformation features, collaborating with a quality managed service provider is key. Knowledgeable managed service providers can use their skill set and experience to investigate which new upgrades and features to leverage for long-term stability and growth.
