Microsoft recently announced their first public preview of SQL Server 2019 at the Ignite 2018 conference. SQL Server 2019 stands out from other relational database software not only from its new and enhanced features but from the significant increase in data efficiency it provides its users.

As more and more data moves to the cloud, the role of the Database Administrator (DBA) has been called into question more than a few times. There’s no denying that the cloud and the wave of digital transformation it has brought with it has changed how many companies do business. And the databases that support that transformation have certainly been impacted as well.

As businesses move their business-critical data to the cloud, hybrid cloud architecture, which supports an organization’s data in both public and private cloud environments, is being embraced as a strategic middle-ground for many organizations. For some industries, hybrid cloud is a temporary solution―a stepping stone―as enterprise applications are deliberately and carefully moved to the cloud; for others it’s a more permanent solution due to a variety of business requirements.

As the cloud continues to gain prominence in enterprise IT, more and more companies are facing the difficult task of figuring out how to get there. That can be especially nerve-wracking when dealing with your organization’s most mission-critical data and databases (such as Oracle, SQL Server, and NoSQL). A challenge that most organizations face is that the cloud simply doesn’t make sense (yet) for all data loads, and it’s rare that a company is able to move all of its data to the cloud in one fell swoop. For that reason, the hybrid cloud is becoming the new normal.

There are few tasks more integral to business success than ensuring the security and efficiency of your Oracle, SQL Server, or NoSQL databases. So, it’s no surprise that security remains a top concern for enterprise data management. Although the cloud is more secure than ever before, recent high-profile breaches from the likes of Equifax, Target, and AWS, have made this uphill trust battle even more difficult for cloud service providers.
